In order to establish the criteria for effective job performance a job analysis is carried out. From that job analysis a job description is prepared and this in turn allows a person specification to be drawn up. Once there is a clear person specification, employers are in a position to assess applicants for relevant skills and attributes.

Job descriptions involve the following processes:

  • identification of the job to be analysed
  • listing the tasks which make up the job
